Customer testimonial - String Theory
"Does the search for a really good pair of loudspeaker cables have to feel like a hunt for the holy grail? That was never the plan, still it is how it has seemed to me for years. Well, until now at least.
It all started when I bought my first black naim boxes. Due to fairly rigid constraints in placement I also needed cables that were a bit flexible. Bad reviews and unruly design made me discard "same brand"
offers right from the start. Unfortunately I was instead "tricked" I would almost say into buying fairly expensive cables with vastly different electrical properties from what a naim power amplifier prefers.
Mind, I have nothing exceptional in my setup, lower end naim Reference series connected to ProAc speakers at the reasonable end (for the brand), still I always felt there was something lurking inside those boxes that I could not quite release. After being disgusted with "high end" cables both in performance (my own experience) and in marketing (especially) I tried just about anything I could find in the lower price range that had seemingly compatible electrical characteristics. I never ventured into high end again, vendors in that segment either usually gave no proper data for their cables at all, or when they did the characteristics seemed completely alien to just about any sensible amplifier and especially a naim box.
This went on for years until I heard rumors about a new Norwegian cable producer called "Paradox Audio" in the segment I was looking for. After checking their website I immediately found what I could easily recognize as good thick and solid cables with for once compatible characteristics.
I quickly ordered a pair of "String Theory", one model up from what I really needed perhaps for my setup, but I knew that if these matched as well as the pure numbers indicated they would be the last cables I ever bought.
Less than a week passed until my pair was ready and appeared at my doorstep. Yes, that is the level of service we are talking about here. Ok, if you are far away from Norway in general and Oslo specifically you probably will not have your pair delivered to you personally, and especially not on foot... ;-)
It was fairly clear from the moment we connected the cables that somethings special had happened. Just taking them out of the box you recognize that the level of workmanship and general finish of the product is no less than awesome. But more importantly what was special with the sound was that everything "special" disappeared. Prolonged listing has just confirmed my initial impression. Previously every cable I have tried have had its own special set of quirks, its strong points and its weaker points. Some cables sounded nice but a bit too delicate or thin, some had a good bass extension but made me remove the front panels of my ProAC D25s not to loose any highs. Some sounded too polished, too much "hi-fi", loosing the raw rhythmic drive and the punch of live music. Now what I hear is like through a stethoscope directly into the recording studio, as these cables disappear without a trace, leaving no mark on the pristine sound delivered from the CDX2 as a source. Finally!
So as a conclusion: For me the "String Theory" is no longer just a theory, it's an 100% proven fact. No, not in particle physics, but just the ability to help or not stand in the way of the reproduction of music. In that respect my feelings are that these babies are no less than priceless!"
